Treatment for the body, Medicine for the soul

What is Myofascial Release?

The John F Barnes’ Myofascial Release Approach is a safe and gentle hands-on technique that provides sustained pressure into myofascial restrictions to eliminate pain and restore motion. Fascia is a protective thin barrier that surrounds all tissue in the body. It is supportive but at the same time can cause restrictions equivalent to a 'straitjacket' causing strain patterns, shortening of some muscles, and overstretching others; creating pain and pressure on the sensitive structure. Trauma (yes, stress is a trauma) or inflammation can create a binding down of fascia resulting in excessive pressure on nerves, muscles, blood vessels, and organs. Most people suffering with pain and/or limited range of motion are suffering from fascial restrictions, which go undiagnosed because standard tests such as x-rays and CT scans do not show the fascial restrictions. Review the list of common diagnoses that I can help you with.

Sheila is a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant with over 10 years of therapy experience.

“During college, I immediately became interested in a more holistic approach to complete healing. After working in rehabilitation facilities for a few years, I finally found what it was missing in my journey.

As an Advanced level Myofascial Release (MFR) Therapist, I am not traditional, in that, I do not do what everyone else does. I actually use my hands! And my heart. I use my hands to detect tension in the muscles and the surrounding fascia.  I am trained in The 'John F. Barnes' Myofascial Release Approach. I am dedicated to guiding you back to health and wholeness through treatment, education and awareness. Focused on an Individual care and plan of action, including self care techniques, to get you back to life. Together, we will discover the root cause of symptoms to assist your body in the healing process by using a hands-on technique that releases connective tissue adhesion and restriction, increase range of motion, and restore overall function.

This is a life-changing experience in which you are engaged to participate in creating real authentic change in your life and your body! I look forward to working with you to achieve your goals. If I am not the right therapist for you then I will do my best to help you find the specialized therapist you need. I look forward to meeting you and starting you on your healing journey.”
